Registering Your Car in Atlanta

Have you recently moved to Atlanta, Georgia from out of state? If so, you have thirty days after establishing residency to register your vehicle before you’ll face fines. Here’s how to do it:

1. Transfer Your Driver’s License

Before you can register your vehicle, you’ll need to be in possession of a Georgia driver’s license. To transfer your old license to a Georgia license, visit a Department of Driver’s Services office. There, you’ll be issued a temporary driver’s license while you wait for your own in the mail.

2. Find a County Tax Commissioner’s Office

Atlanta being in Fulton County, this means of course that you’ll need to visit the Fulton County Tax Commissioner’s office. Here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:
• Your current title from out of state
• Your out of state registration
• Proof of residency
• A copy of your lease contract (if the vehicle is leased)

Registering Your Car in Minneapolis

minnesota flagIf you’ve just moved to Minneapolis from out of state, you’ll need to register your car in order to get around. Here’s the when, where, and how of registering your motor vehicle in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

When

You have 60 days after moving to Minnesota to have your car registered. If your out-of-state registration expires within those 60 days, you’ll need to re-register it in Minnesota immediately upon expiration. If you try to drive in Minnesota with an expired out of state registration, or delay registering your car for more than 60 days, you could face heavy fines.

Where

While you can apply by mail, registering your vehicle in person can make it much easier to fix any hitches that come up in the registration process. To register your vehicle in person, visit your nearest Deputy Registrar Office. We’ve mapped out the locations around Minneapolis below:

How

Take the following paperwork to your nearest Deputy Registrar Office:

1. The current vehicle title

2. The Minnesota Application to Title and Register a Vehicle (PS2000). This application will also be available at any Deputy Registrar Office.

3. A recording of your vehicle’s Odometer.

4. Personal identification. If you have a Minnesota Driver’s License then that’s all you’ll need. If your license is from out of state, you’ll need to submit two items from this list.

5. A copy of your leasing agreement (if you’re leasing the vehicle).

6. Proof of car insurance.

Finally, you’ll need to pay the fees. Those will be based on your vehicle’s base price and age, and depend upon the county. If you need to know the exact amount beforehand, call your local Deputy Registrar Office. The minimum amount for vehicles 10 years or older is $35.

After that, you should be ready to hit the road!
