Deep Deals: Phoenix

Yeehaw! Deep Deals is  back today after a prospectin’ trek out to to the Wild West: Phoenix, AZ. And yessirree did we bring back some desert roses. We’ve found two of the best deals on 5×5 self-storage units in Phoenix–two different types of deals, each of which will work better for different customers depending on their situations. The first deal targets short-term customers and offers a lower price over the long term as well. The second deal  targets mid-term customers–it’s a smaller target in terms of time, but not quantity of customers, as many people rent storage for more than just a month-or-two but less than a year.

Our first deal comes from Central Self Storage in Dunlap, just off N 43rd Ave. 5×5 units are running for the very low price of $26/mo, but that’s not the kicker: the real deal is that the first month is totally free. That’s right: 1 month = 0 dinero, señor(a/ita). That’s the kind of deal you hop into a covered wagon and ride off west for, I’ll tell you that.

Our second facility, CubeSmart Self Storage Mesa (just off South Country Club Drive), is offering 5×5 storage units for $29.75– %15-off their typical price. But don’t think that our second facility rode into this deal-driven-duel without packing any heat. CubeSmart is also offering 1/2-off for the first three months. No wonder it’s so hot in Arizona.

So which is the deal for you: CubeSmart Mesa or Central Self Storage Dunlop? Don’t worry–we’ve done all the math so that you don’t have to.

Clicking on the graph will show a larger view.

As we can see, anyone hoping to stay for two months would do best at Central Self Storage, where they’d only be paying $26 since that first month was free (we’re pretty sure that Central’s deal of a free month is not available if you only stay for one month, but neither would CubeSmart’s deal, so with its lower monthly price you’d probably be best paying $26 at Central for one month’s stay). Two months at CubeSmart will cost you $29.75.

Things change in the third month (December in our graph). That’s when Central’s deal is over but CubeSmart’s begins to pull ahead. CubeSmart will be $7.38 cheaper than Central in the third month, $3.93 cheaper in the fourth, and 18 cents cheaper in the fifth. This means that anyone hoping to rent a storage unit for three-to-five months–and this would be a lot of you, as that’s a very typical period of time to stay–would do best to go with CubeSmart.

But we’re still not finished! In the sixth month the effects of CubeSmart’s three-month deal begin to fade and Central’s lower price catches back up. After six months Central will cost $130 to CubeSmart’s $133.57, after seven months $156 to $163.32, after eight months $182 to $193.07, and so on indefinitely. So for anyone hoping to rent a storage unit for six months or more should go with Central Self Storage Dunlop.

In the end, exercises like these only demonstrate that getting the best deal is all about doing your research and planning ahead. So pull out your calendars, folks.

Deep Deals: Atlanta Storage

We’ve searched the Peach State far and wide to bring back today’s Deep Deals on Atlanta storage units. Our focus was on Medium 5×10 storage units, and boy did we find us some peaches–two to be precise. Deals just don’t get juicier than these two.

Remember, the purpose of our weekly Deep Deals isn’t just to highlight the best offers on storage in a given city, but also to prove a point: that because storage facilities feature different kinds of offers, monthly price shouldn’t be the only thing you consider when making your decision. Most special deals are based on the amount of time you stay in the unit. Storage facilities have different goals when it comes to keeping tenants for a period of time–some want to hook you in for a shorter stint and so offer great move-in offers (like $1 for the first month), while some would prefer you to stay for three-or-four months and so spread their specials out over that period of time (like 50%-off the first three months). Whichever is the best deal for you is based upon how long you plan on staying. We’ve chosen two such specials to compare in order to help you plan ahead.

The first facility we’ve chosen is Metro Self Storage-Decatur, where 5×10 units are going for a low $36 a month. But awesome price isn’t even the juiciest part of the deal–it’s their offer of the first month for just $1 that caught our eye. That’s right: a month in a 5×10 storage unit for just $1. They’re basically giving that space away!

But if you think that’s a delicious deal, try this one: SmartStop-Austel Rd. is offering a 5×10 unit for just $39 a month. “But that’s $3 more!” you might be saying–true, but you didn’t let us finish: your first three months will come at half off. That’s right, 50% off the sticker price of the first three months–that’s just $19.50 a month, less than most 5×5 units.

So which is the best deal for you–$36 a month with a $1 first month, or $39 a month with the first three months half-off? In the end, it all depends on how long you want to stay.

As you can see in our graph, anyone looking to rent a storage unit in Atlanta for two months would do best with Metro Self-Storage, where that $1 first month brings the two month total to just $37. But after two months things begin to change. In the third month (November in the graph) that 50%-off for the first three months at SmartStop begins to kick in. SmartStop’s unit will cost just $58.50 for the first three months compared to Metro’s $73. SmartStop will hold its lead as the most affordable option all the way up to the seventh month (March). At that point Metro has almost caught up–it’s seven-month totals come in at $217 vs. SmartStop’s $214.50. In the next month Metro will finally become the more affordable option again: at $253 for eight months it will be fifty cents cheaper than SmartStop. Metro will continue from then on to be more affordable than SmartStop. After eleven months Metro will cost just $361 to SmartStop’s $370.50.

So what can we take away from this? If you’re planning on renting a storage unit in Atlanta for two months or more than seven months, Metro Self-Storage-Decatur is the choice for you. But if you’re in Atlanta and planning on renting a unit for between three and seven months then SmartStop-Austel Rd. has the best deal on offer for you. Always remember to plan ahead–knowing how long you’ll be staying in the unit is key to finding the best deal on storage.

Deep Deals: Philadelphia Storage

Deep Deals is back this week to find the best bargain for you on Philadelphia storage. Our focus was on 5×5 units that don’t necessarily offer the lowest monthly prices but do feature excellent special deals for renters seeking a space for more than just a month. So while their price tags might not be as eye-catching as others, the two facilities featured this week offer unbeatable bargains that reward those who plan ahead.

The first deal we’ll be examining comes from Haddon Storage, just five miles outside Philadelphia across the Delaware in West Collingswood Heights, New Jersey. Haddon Storage’s 5×5 storage units are selling for $40.00, with the second month thrown in for nothing at all. That’s right: two months of storage for just $40.

But Haddon Storage is not the only facility tossing out excellent offers for those hoping to rent a space for more than just one month. Drive a little further outside of town to find United Storage Cherry Hill. At $42.00 monthly costs might be a bit higher here than at Haddon Storage, but United Storage sweetens the deal with the first three months half-off. Three months of storage for $21 a month sounds even better than $20 a month at Haddon Storage.

But in reality neither offer is essentially better than the other. It all depends on each renter’s individual situation, most specifically how the renter’s calendar matches up with these time-based special offers. So which deal is best for you?

Click on the graph to view a larger version.

As we can see, these time-based specials work differently depending on how long you’re hoping to keep your 5×5 unit. If you only need your space for a month then go with United Storage Cherry Hill, where you’ll only have to shell out $21 compared to Haddon Storage’s first-month fee of $40. But a renter seeking a unit for two months will save $2 with Haddon Storage’s free month versus United Storage’s cumulative two-month price of $42.

Renters seeking to keep a unit for three months should once again look at United Storage, where the three-month 50%-off deal will bring total costs to $63, saving you $17 versus Haddon Storage’s three-month total of $80. This holds true for the fourth month, when United Storage will cost a total $105 as opposed to Haddon Storage’s $120, and the fifth month, where United Storage wins again with $147 total to Haddon’s $160.

At six months we reach yet another turning point: both specials have been out of effect for three months now and so Haddon Storage’s lower monthly costs are now catching up to the lead that United Storage took with its three-month special. After six months Haddon Storage will cost $180 versus United Storage’s $184. After seven months the difference will be $220 to $226. As (I hope) you can tell, Haddon Storage will continue to pull away from United Storage, saving you $2 every month.

So there we have it: those seeking a storage unit for either one, three, four or five months would do well by choosing United Self Storage, whose three-month deals really pay off in this period. Those who plan on renting a 5×5 unit for two or six or more months would find the best bargain at Haddon Storage, whose low monthly price and free second month create excellent savings.

So get out your calendar and plan ahead before you venture out into the Philadelphia storage world.

Deep Deals: Los Angeles Storage

After diving into the depths of that bottomless abyss that is the self storage world, Deep Deals has returned to the surface today with two of the best bargains on storage in Los Angeles, California. These aren’t the kind of deals you catch and throw back–they’re the stuff of legend. You’re going to want to take your picture with these deals for your grandchildren, to get them cleaned and stuffed and mounted on your mantelpiece. They’re those kinds of deals.

And in a storage market like Los Angeles–which has storage facilities aplenty, but often-astronomical prices–deals of this sort aren’t a luxury; they’re a necessity. Finding the right deal for you can be the difference between paying $480 a year on a unit or $1270–differences like that are quite common in this city.

But what is the right deal for you? As you can see after quickly glancing over SelfStorageDeals.com’s search results for LA, there’s a lot more involved in the ultimate cost of a unit than just the monthly rental fee. Most facilities offer some kind of special deal that can drastically alter what you’ll end up paying for your unit. Today we’ve selected two of Los Angeles’s best specials on 5×5 storage units. As we’ll see, each of these deals will be better for different customers in different situations.

The first offer we have for you today is out of Paramount Self Storage, located at 8160 Rosecrans Ave in Paramount, south-east of Downtown LA.

As you can see, Paramount Self Storage is offering a 5×5 unit for $45, a decent price for Los Angeles. But it’s the special deal that makes storing your belongings at Paramount a really attractive bargain–or ‘deals,’ I should say, as Paramount uniquely offers two different options depending on the customer’s preference. Choose the first special and your monthly fee will be halved for the first three months; go with the second and 20% will be deducted from your rent for six months. Paramount Self Storage has already confronted you with what might be a tough choice. Allow me to make things more complicated.

Now Dollar Self Storage on Pioneer Blvd in Santa Fe Springs steps into the ring with an offer of $39 a month on its 5×5 units. But wait–that’s not all: Dollar Self Storage lives up to its name with its supreme special of just $1 for the first month’s storage. With a monthly price $6 lower than Paramount’s and a first-month’s rent of just $1, Dollar Self Storage has really turned up the heat in this storage streetfight.

But as we discussed before, neither of these deals is necessarily any better than the other. It all depends on the customer’s needs. So which storage facility is right for you? Paramount’s deal #1, deal #2, or Dollar self storage?

Click on the graph to expand.

The first thing that comes to our attention is that Paramount’s deal #2–six months 20% off–is never a better option than the other two deals. Even Paramount’s first deal of 50% off for the first three months will always be the cheaper option. So right out the door we can go ahead and throw Paramount’s second offer away.

Now that we’re down to just two we can see that things are quickly becoming more complicated. With its first-month deal of $1 rent and its low monthly fee of $39, Dollar Self Storage’s 5×5 units will be cheaper than Paramount’s first offer, even though Paramount is cutting its rate in half. But that soon changes: after three months of its 1/2-off rate Paramount begins to take the lead, its three-month total coming in at $67.50 versus Dollar Self Storage’s three-month total of $79. This holds true in the fourth month (December in our graph) as well, when Paramount will total $112.50 versus Dollar Self Storage’s $118.

In the fifth month Dollar Self Storage leaps out to take a permanent lead. Now that Paramount’s rate is no longer reduced its higher monthly fee begins to weigh it down. Paramount will now total $157.50 versus Dollar’s $157–only 50 cents difference, but this is only the beginning. In the sixth month Paramount will total $202.50 to Dollar’s $196. By the eighth month Dollar Self Storage will cost only $274 versus Paramount’s $292.50.

So which deal should you go with? If you plan on keeping your unit for two months or less, go with Dollar Self Storage. If you need a storage unit for three or four months (or five, as Paramount is just fifty cents more expensive than Dollar in the fifth month) stick with Paramount Self Storage’s first option. If you plan on renting a unit for five months or more, then Dollar Self Storage offers the best long-term bargain for you.

Deep Deals: Boston Storage

Are you ready for some D-to-the-EALS?

Deep Deals is back this week with some dangerously deep discounts on 5×10 Boston storage units. And man am I talking deep, Boston Harbor deep. Everyone knows that Bostonians can’t do without their deals: last time someone gave them a raw one–the British–they turned their harbor into a dirty teacup, rebelled against His Majesty, and started their own country. They needed a better deal on tea, and those are the kinds of deals I’ve got for you today. Deals worthy of sticking it to the King. Deals to start your own country for (Selfstoragia? The USS–United States of Storage? Storagepore? The Storagepean Union? OK, I’ll stop, but you get the point).

So let’s get started: the first deal we’ll be looking at today comes from Salem Self Storage, where 5×10 units are on offer for $64.95, the lowest price in all of Boston.

With deals like these, they ought to be tried for witchcraft.

Salem’s offer is the lowest monthly price in all of Boston and the first result for a search for 5×10 units on the SelfStorageDeals.com results list. But is first always best? Burlington Self Storage has a special offer that might change your mind.

$50 a month for three months–How do you like them apples?

The first three months for only $50 a month? $150 for three months? That’s a deep deal that would make the Founding Fathers proud. The kind of bargain that Paul Revere would ride through town to spread the word to the patriots of Boston (“The Deals are coming, the Deals are coming!”). But is it a better offer than Salem Self Storage’s?

Let’s find out:

One of the main purposes of our Deep Deals series is to illustrate the fact that there is a lot more to factor in when choosing a storage unit than just the monthly price. Most deals on storage units are of the temporal type–first month a dollar, second month free, three months half-off–and this changes everything. Those looking for the best bargain must plan ahead and compare their calendars to see how they match up with such deals. I purposely chose Salem Self Storage–which simply features a low monthly rate–and Burlington Self Storage–with its three-month special–not just because they were two excellent deals out of Boston, but because they illustrate my point: you’ve got to find the deal that’s best for you.

So which is it? As we can see in the graph, Burlington Self Storage is the best option for those planning on renting their storage space for three-to-four months (August to November in our example). That special deal of three months for just $50 simply makes it the more affordable option over this span of time: you’ll end up paying $150 instead of $194.85 at Salem. Even in the fourth month when the regular monthly price of $94 kicks back in Burlington is still the best choice, totaling $244 to Salem’s $259.80. Now of course, before you start shouting like a New Yorker caught in traffic, I know that this comes with one important stipulation: the first three months at Burlington must be prepaid to lock in that special $50 rate. So we’ll have to amend our graph a bit: anyone hoping to rent a unit for two months or less should still go with Salem, or else they’ll need to pay the regular rate of $94 a month at Burlington.

Now after five months things begin to change: Burlington’s special deal has now been over for two months and its relative effects have worn off. Salem’s steady low pace of $64.95 a month begins inching ahead of Burlington in the savings race. Yes, what we have here is a classic example of the Tortoise and the Hare– Burlington had all the speed up front but then wore itself out, while Salem keeps it slow and steady. After five months you’ll be paying a total of $324.75 at Salem versus $338 at Burlington, after four months $389.70 vs. $432, five months $454.65 vs. $526, and finally after six months you’ll be paying a full $100 less at Salem than at Burlington, $519.60 vs. $620.

The Bottom Line: Anyone looking to rent a space for three-to-four months would be best served by Burlington Self Storage, whose special rate of $50 for the first three months can save you up to $44–almost a full month’s rent–versus Salem Self Storage. This comes with the important stipulation that you must pay the $150 at move-in to lock in such a rate, so of course you’ll need to know your calendar beforehand. Anyone wanting to keep a unit for less than two or more than four months would be best served by Salem Self Storage, whose low, tortoise-like rate of $64.95 a month can save you up to $100 after six months.

So plan ahead and consult SelfStorageDeals.com to find the deal that best fits you around the great city of Boston.

Deep Deals: Chicago Storage

Thanks to SelfStorageDeals.com locating a bargain deal on storage in your area has never been easier. But is finding affordable storage perhaps too easy? Have we been blessed–and thus cursed–with too many good options to choose from?

As you scroll down the search results list on SelfStorageDeals.com it might often seem so. Competitive prices abound, perks like climate control form nice little bulleted lists, and above all there are those prodigious deals that will cause one’s head to spin. A first month’s rent for only $1? The second month free? 15% off forever with a three month lease? The first three months half off?

Preposterous, you might say. How could one ever choose between such baffling bargains?

Allow me to help. Today we’ll be reviewing two excellent deals on 5×5 storage units around Chicago, Illinois. As we’ll see, such deals can be so good that choosing between them is tricky. And the trick, in the end, is assessing your own situation and finding the best choice for you. Many of our best storage offers are not out-and-out superior than the others, but may be better for different people in different situations. The greatest determining factor is the length of time for which the renter wants to keep the unit.

The first facility we’ll look at is Metro Self Storage on W. 79th Street in Chicago. At the time of review, Metro Self Storage was offering the third-lowest monthly rate on 5×5 storage units in Chicago at $29.99. That may be $8.99 more than the lowest rate, however Metro Self Storage had on offer a special deal that the first month’s rent was only $1, one of the best bargains to be had in all of Chicago.

But is it the best bargain? There are others out there that might be right for you. The next offer we’ll examine comes from Life Storage Centers of Hermosa on 4500 W. Grand Ave in Chicago. Life Storage Centers had on offer 5×5 units for $35 a month–not the most eye-catching price tag. Indeed, this offer came up last on the first page of the results list of a search for 5×5 units in Chicago. But there are bargains to be had at the bottom of the bin. Big bargains, like buried treasure.

That big bargain would be an amazing deal of the first three months half off. That’s right: Three months of storage for only $17.50 a month, what seems to be the lowest rate on 5×5 units in Chicago.

Could it be? Which will save you more, a unit with a monthly fee of $29.99 with the first month only $1, or a unit that’s $35/mo with the first three months half off (at $17.50)? Let’s find out which is the best deal for you.

Clicking on the graph will open a larger view.

As we can see in the above graph, the answer is not so simple. Over the first two months (July and August in the graph) Metro Self Storage is the better deal, at $30.99 for two months versus $35 for two months at Life Storage Centers. This is of course due to the fact that the first month at Metro Self Storage is only $1, which combined with the second month’s regular rate of $29.99 still overcomes Life Storage Centers’s deal of 50% off $35.

But then the next month things suddenly change. In the third month (September) Life Storage Centers’s special offer of half-off continues, making its three-month total $52.50. Metro Self Storage on the other hand has reverted back to its normal monthly rate of $29.99 for the second month in a row, bringing its three-month total cost to $60.98, a full $8.48 more than Life Storage Centers. This remains true even in the forth month, when Life Storage Centers’s monthly rate finally reverts back to its typical $35/mo. At an $87.50 four-month total Life Storage Centers is still more affordable than Metro Self Storage, which will charge $90.97 four four months of storage.

But then in the fifth month things begin to change again. At a full $35 a month Life Storage Centers simply can’t keep up with the normal low price of $29.99 at Metro Self Storage. After five months Metro Self Storage’s unit will have cost a total of $120.96 compared to Life Storage Centers’s $122.50, after six months $150.86 to $157.50, after seven months $180.85 to $192.50, and finally after eight months $210.84 to $227.50. As you can see, Metro Self Storage’s long-term rate, after kicking in at the five-month mark, quickly leaves Self Storage Center in the dust.

So what can we draw from all of this? If you’re hoping to rent a 5×5 storage unit in Chicago for two months go with Metro Self Storage, where you’ll only pay $30.99. If you’re seeking out a unit for three-to-four months–a very typical amount of time to rent a space–then Life Storage Centers of Hermosa offers the best deal, at $52.50 for three months and $87.50 for four months. Finally, if you’re seeking to rent a space for five months or more, head back to Metro Self Storage, whose five month costs will total a low $120.96 and whose competitive monthly rate of $29.99 will save you money from then on out.

As we can see, picking the right deal for you is all about planning. If you know you’re only going to need a storage unit for two months or less–or five months or more–choose Metro Self Storage. If you’re going to need a space for three or four months, find Self Storage Centers of Hermosa. If you think you want to rent a space for just a month-or-two but are worried you might need a bit more time, Self Storage Centers is still inexpensive and would offer you a nice two-month cushion to save you money should your stay need to be extended. If you only plan on keeping your unit for three or four months but are worried about needing some extra time, then Metro Self Storage’s low monthly rate will take care of you for however long you need it.

The deals are out there. Go get em.

Deep Deals: Austin Storage

KEEP STORAGE WEIRD
Powerful tools like SelfStorageDeals.com are revolutionizing the storage industry, allowing customers to find the best prices at facilities in their area. But price alone is not the only factor you must consider when searching for your perfect facility. Most storage facilities offer special deals that can drastically change the aggregate cost of your unit beyond its monthly price tag. There are a wide variety of such deals out there, each catering to a unique customer need. Finding the best deal for you is an essential part of an affordable self storage experience.

Today we’ll be comparing two excellent deals in Austin, TX, on 10×10 storage units. Each facility offers a unique monthly price and a unique special offer that drastically changes the overall cost of the unit over time. Depending on your situation one might be the bargain for you.

The first offer we’ll be examining can be found at Airport Self Storage in the south of Austin:

As you can see, Airport Self Storage offers an amazing monthly price on its 10×10 unit– at $68/mo it’s currently the lowest monthly cost in all of Austin and the first offer you’ll see when searching on SelfStorageDeals.com. That bargain comes with one caveat: a minimum lease of three months. Our next offer can be found a little farther down on the SelfStorageDeals.com search results list:

Although Texas Storage Park’s offer of $89/mo is a full $21/mo more than Airport Self Storage–and is only ranked as the fifth-best price in Austin on SelfStorageDeals.com’s search results–its special offer of a free second month changes everything, so be careful not to instantly dismiss it. Neither of these offers are in themselves essentially better than the other; it all depends on your own situation as a renter. As you can see in the graph below, each offers a significantly different bargain depending on the amount of time the unit is rented out for.

Storage Unit graph

Despite its higher monthly rental costs, Texas Storage Park would actually be the cheaper option if the renter is only going to remain in the unit for four months (from July to October in the graph). This is of course because there is no charge for the second month at Texas Storage Park. A renter hoping to store his or her items for four months would save a total of $5 with a unit at Texas Storage Park versus a unit at Airport Self Storage. A renter intending to keep a unit for three months–which, of course, is mandatory at Airport Self Storage– would save $26 at Texas Storage Park, with an approximate daily cost of $1.97 versus a daily cost of $2.26 at Airport Self Storage. Over the first two months a renter would save a whopping $47 at Texas Storage Park (and remember, Airport Self Storage’s low monthly cost is only available if one stays for three-plus months).

After that fourth month (October in our example) things quickly begin to change. The effects of Texas Storage Park’s special deal of a free second month begin to dissipate, with Airport Self Storage’s low monthly cost kicking in to save you a ton. Over five months a renter will save $16 at Airport Self Storage, $37 over six months, $58 over seven months, and so on. After a year a renter will have spent a total of $828 (that’s still $2.26 a day) at Airport Self Storage versus $979 (now $2.68 a day) at Texas Storage Park, a total savings of $151.

So there we have it: Texas Storage Park offers a higher monthly cost with a special deal of  a free second month, making it the choice for renters hoping to keep their unit for four months or less. Airport Self Storage on the other hand offers a significantly-lower monthly cost with the caveat that a renter must sign a three-month lease, making it the better deal for renters hoping to keep their units for longer than four months.Savings will differ significantly between the two facilities depending on the amount of time the renter intends on keeping a unit.

For those unsure of how long they might need their units, it might be wise to go with the facility with the lowest monthly costs. Most special offers benefit renters for the first few months, with their effects dwindling over time. If you’re unsure whether you’ll need a unit for less than four months, locking into that $68/mo rate at Airport Self Storage might be the safer bet–just in case you need to keep your unit for a longer period of time. If you have definite dates for your rental, and that span of time is four months or shorter, then going with Texas Storage Park is the sure bet.

When searching for your self storage deal its important that you plan ahead and determine  how long you intend to keep your unit. Then when browsing SelfStorageDeals.com to find a facility near you make sure to compare not only the monthly cost of units, but also any special offers. Whatever your self storage needs, there’s a bargain out there for you.
